.                                     Helen Pettit Starnes died on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Doctor’s Community Hospital.  She was born on
.                                     November 22, 1921 in Fort Lawn, So. Car., one of 11 children of George and Ola Pettit. Mrs. Starnes served in the
.                                     U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1944.  She was stationed in Florida where she met and married Walter Starnes. They moved
.                                     to 58-E Crescent Road in 1953. A member of the American Legion and the Golden Age Club, Mrs. Starnes was also
.                                     a charter member of Greenbelt Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities through the years.  
.                                     She was employed at the Maryland State Employment office and the Prince George’s Department of Social Services.
.                                     Mrs. Starnes' husband Walter, son Edis, nephew William Pettit and grandson Donovan predeceased her. She is
.                                     survived by her daughter, Sheila Nester of Greenbelt; a grandson, Dwayne Nester of Delaware; granddaughter ****
.                                     Hughes and husband Skip and two great granddaughters, Heather and Corrinne Hughes, all of Greenbelt. Also sur-
.                                     viving are brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews.  A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, December 14
.                                     at the Greenbelt Baptist Church....
